The design solution combines the indoor courts with the players’ pavilion under a single curved roof, achieving efficiencies in space use and therefore cost.
Location: Auckland NZ
This arrangement enables close interaction between relaxation spaces and playing areas.
The main club areas are organized onto a long mezzanine at first floor level. From here, there is access to a large external deck overlooking the outdoor courts, and to a raking gallery overlooking the indoor courts.
Toilets, changing and storage are in the undercroft below the mezzanine.
A tight capital budget required the use of robust long-life low-maintenance materials and installations, which would also reduce operational outgoings.
The structure of steel portal arches spans 36 metres over the courts. A system of curved insulated panels interspersed with translucent rooflights forms the roof envelope.
