The Practice

Copeland Associates Architects was established in 1997 by Barry Copeland after a successful career with eminent practices in Manchester, London and Auckland.

The practice is rooted in substantial experience and the commitment to deliver an effective professional service to clients. Its method focuses on achieving innovative economic solutions through elegant combination of spaces, materials and methods. Its dynamic derives from a celebration of light, air and movement. The underlying belief is in the important contribution that architecture has to make to society and to the environment for our future generations.

Collaboration

The practice believes in the power of teamwork and collaboration. As we drive design evolution with sketches, drawings, models, there is constant dialogue with the client and other stakeholders and contributors. From inception through to completion we work collaboratively with engineers, constructors and other specialists to meet cost, time and quality targets.

Sustainable Design

A sustainable design has many facets. Our aim is to respond organically to the natural environment, emphasizing the benefits of the site and natural energy resources such as daylight and solar energy.

A successful building achieves a balance with its surrounding context as well as within itself. Inherent in this approach is the consideration of the developments’ longer term impacts on the site and landscape, its history and neighbourhood, its social and cultural context, and its infrastructure and ecology.

We seek a robustness of building materials and systems. We devote much effort to the refinement of the design, aiming for clear circulation, efficient layout, clean lines, pure forms and economy of means – this includes keeping operational and maintenance costs to a minimum.
